8 Ways to Market Your Ministry

I have 7 years of radio broadcasting experience. I started doing social media for a program called Open Line. It’s a Q&A Bible program on Moody Radio.

I started doing odd jobs around Moody Radio Chicago and eventually ended up as the audio sound engineer and on-air contributor on Karl and Crew Mornings 90.1 FM Chicago. Enjoying the fast-paced energy of the morning show, I fell in love with radio. I felt like my personality totally fit that role.

Most importantly I loved being able to tell my story and what God has done and is doing in my life. You may also feel that way. You have amazing stories, prayers that were answered, and lessons learned. I want to give you the advice I wish someone had continued to tell me, starting with:

Your story matters.

Lisa Terkeurst talks about how she started teaching women around the world. It started with focusing on just one person at a time. If she was able to teach God’s Word to one person, she felt it was a win.

I’ve always said teaching God’s Word is the easiest kind of marketing or ministry or message out there because the truth of God’s Word really does speak for itself.

1 Peter 1:23 ESV

Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;

Hebrews 4:12 ESV

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Isaiah 40:8 ESV

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

Isaiah 55:11 ESV

So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

This was the biggest lesson I learned during my time at Moody Radio. I started creating a radio program called That’s Real Radio and it was on national radio stations not just on Moody Radio but Christian programs around the country. When I started producing the program there were a team of individuals who helped me hone in on my message.

Know who your message is for.

Mine was for millennials in the church.

Create a style guide.

Ask the question: What do you want your brand to feel like? This will help with choosing colors, fonts, and which platforms you want to show up. I wanted the tone to feel serious and intellectual.

**Tone: Energetic, Relatable, and Honest

Listener Experience: Helps**

Takeaway: Moody Radio is a biblical resource for practical, life changing content that is relevant to their life.

Imagery and Branding: poppy red, blue, block doodle lettering

Come up with a mission statement.
